Restaurants:

  • Rotonda / Englewood area. There are a number of great restaurants locally and in the town of Port Charlotte.
  • The Country Hound Cafe: Varied menu available all day but has great breakfasts.
  • La Stanza: Delicious Italian food, more formal atmosphere. Dearborn Street, Downtown Englewood. Reservations. Tel: 941 475 1355.
  • Johnny Leverock’s Seafood House: Lovely view over the marina, great fish menu (steak and chicken also available), slightly more expensive but well worth the extra.
  • Gulf View grill: Lovely restaurant overlooking Englewood beach – great for beautiful sunsets but make a reservation to avoid disappointment. European style menu, good sized portions but a little more expensive. Proper dress required. Tel: 941 475 3500.
  • Rum Bay (Palm Island Resort on Palm Bay): Take the ferryboat from behind Johnny Leverock’s reservation suggested. Specials coupons often in local paper. Very busy at weekends, Monday – Thursday less busy.
  • A little further away in Port Charlotte town centre you will find the more famous restaurants such as Outback steak house, Denny’s, Bob Evans, Chilli’s, Red Lobster, TGI Fridays and more.
  • Outback Steakhouse: Australian theme restaurant. Great steaks also chicken and fish dishes. Located at Port Charlotte shopping mall.
  • Bob Evans: Great family restaurant delicious desserts. Very friendly staff. Specials for OAP’s. Located at Port Charlotte shopping mall.
  • Chilli’s: Great food including Mexican menu. Happy hour Monday – Friday until 7pm 2 for 1, great chance to try cocktails. Located at Port Charlotte Shopping Mall.
  • Red Lobster: Also in Port Charlotte Mall, specialises in sea food but has a full range menu including chicken and steak. Has great offers and good service.

 

Beaches:

  • Englewood Beach: Boardwalk, Rest Rooms, Showers, Picnic Tables, BBQ’s, Kids Playground, Volleyball, Horse Shoe Toss, Excellent Beach for Swimming, Walking and Shell Collecting, Restaurants 50 yards from Beach. Small cost for car parking.
  • Englewood Middle Beach, (Blind Pass): Beautiful scenic coastline ideal for swimming, fishing and shell collecting. Rest rooms and showers. Free parking.
  • Stump Pass: Over one mile of beach, excellent for swimming, walking and collecting shells.
  • Manasota Beach: This 14 acre stretch of beach and sand dunes has BBQ’s, picnic tables (sheltered), Rest rooms and showers, board walk. The beach is approx 3 miles north of Middle beach in Englewood.
  • Boca Grande & Gasparillo Island: A scenic drive to three beautiful beaches in a gorgeous location. BBQ’s, picnic tables, rest rooms and showers. Small fee for parking around $2 for day. The Loose Caboose is worth a visit for lunch in the small town.

 

Local Attractions:

  • Tennis Courts, Cycle Track, Nature Reserves, Community Park, Bowling, Cinema, Boat Trips, Fishing and Fishing Charters, Water Sports, Ice-Skating.
  • J N ‘Ding’ Darling National Wildlife Refuge: (60-75 Mins) Worth a visit. Found on Sanibel Island a 4 mile drive offers viewing of water birds and the mangrove estuary system. ($5 Car, $1 Hiker/Biker) or take a guided tram tour.
  • The Everglades: (120 Mins) Take a trip south of Naples, around the swamps on a Hover-boat, see Racoons, Alligators and other Wildlife.
  • Busch Gardens: (90 Mins) Situated in Tampa, a Fun Theme Park with Animals, Shows, and Great Rides. (Roller-Coasters and Water Rides).
  • Ten Pin Bowling: (20 Mins)Treasure Lanes in Port Charlotte. Good fun for all the family, food available, licenced bar. Tel: 941 625 3930
  • Tennis: (2 Mins) Public courts – no fee – Rotonda West Central Park.
  • Lemon Bay High School (after school hours).Placida Road opposite the Dairy Queen.
  • Englewood Tennis Club semi-private for information and fees. Tel: 941 475 3386
  • Cinema: (20 Mins) – Located in Port Charlotte in the Town Centre Mall ( Multi Screen )
  • Fishing: (10 Mins) – Several fishing trips are available on Placida and Beach Road. Organized trips include licence and use of equipment.
  • Note: State law requires a license for salt or fresh water fishing, available at bait shops and K-Mart.

 

Shopping:

  • Florida is great for shopping. Locally there is a large mall in Port Charlotte. Wall Mart often has bargains. Prime Outlets in Ellenton is a designer outlet and is worth a visit on your way back to Tampa airport, it is situated on I75 north of Bradenton.
